Bridging Cultures Through Arabic Language and Arts

ALEFE, Inc.

ALEFE, Inc. is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to teaching Arabic language and culture through arts, media, storytelling, and other creative approaches. We serve both native and non-native learners, fostering meaningful connections across diverse communities.

The name ALEFE comes from the first letter of the Arabic alphabet, whose root often symbolizes unity and bringing hearts together. This spirit defines our mission: to teach Arabic while building cultural bridges that connect and strengthen communities.

Why ALEFE?

Here are the pillars of our unique approach:

Home-Made Curriculum

At ALEFE, we don’t import or buy curriculum — we design our own Arabic language programs in-house, built with love and intention. Each lesson is carefully developed to serve the needs of our local students, whether they are native speakers or beginners, ensuring progress at every level of Arabic proficiency.

ACTFL Standards

When designing our Arabic language programs, ALEFE follows the guidelines and standards of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). This ensures that our bilingual curriculum meets national benchmarks for language proficiency, fostering meaningful communication and cultural understanding for students of all ages and skill levels.

Three-step Backward Design Method

At ALEFE, our Arabic language lesson plans are created using the Backward Design Method, a research-backed approach that ensures effective learning outcomes.

  1. Set Teaching Goals – Our teachers begin by defining clear, measurable objectives for each lesson, aligned with student language proficiency levels.

  2. Determine Assessment Indicators – Next, we identify the evidence and milestones that demonstrate students have achieved the lesson goals.

  3. Plan Activities and Resources – Finally, we design all classroom activities, exercises, and materials to support students in reaching these indicators successfully.

By using this backward design approach, ALEFE ensures that every Arabic lesson is purposeful, goal-oriented, and tailored to help students thrive in both language and cultural understanding.

Arabic Dual Immersion Approach

At ALEFE, students are fully immersed in Arabic, using the language for at least 90% of class time. Our dual immersion preschool approach encourages learners to interact, communicate, and explore their environment in Arabic, building fluency and confidence from an early age.

Where We work?

Since 2017, ALEFE has provided Arabic language programs, after-school classes, and summer camps at multiple charter schools in Sacramento, bringing bilingual education and cultural learning directly to local students.
